Events

Events held during Queensland Child Protection Week give the community a chance to get involved and give their support to the important issues that we promote.

The Queensland Child Protection Week Committee is offering Grants for the staging of public events that positively support the Child Protection Week theme throughout the State.

Non-government organisations, community organisations and networks are encouraged to apply and successful applicants may receive full or partial grants.

Events must embrace the theme of Child Protection Week – Protecting Children is Everybody’s Business – as well as have a community and educational focus.

Children, who attend our playgroups, outreach Playbus, limited hour’s child care, or are supported through our disability or foster and kinship care team will have the opportunity to complete art. It is our hope to involve as many children as possible, because children and young people need to be heard to make real difference. Additionally, workers across different teams will be supporting, which encompasses our commitment to protecting all children and building awareness.
Once we have collected the fantastic artworks, they will be displayed at our family fun day on the 28th of September for everyone to see. This day in held during school holidays, allowing for school aged children and their families to attend. This will be demonstrated through child-led play activities, emotional resilience based activities, age appropriate sport-based play, and male inclusive activities.
Our centre supports early intervention prevention parenting supports for families with a child between 0-8. The Family Fun Day will promote the role of men as protective and supportive factors in keeping children safe and secure. A photo booth will be part of this process to enable children to take a photograph with their supports be they a parent, (encouraging Dads) or significant family figure. Copies of their photos will be provided to the children as well as placed on a mural to be displayed in the centre.

Staff from the Early Years Centre will be present at the event to engage with families and to promote the importance of developing resilience in children, and supporting them to be equipped to support the emotional needs of their children. Information stalls will provide information on topics such as early intervention mental health strategies, emotional resilience, and an understanding of the effects of trauma on family units.
The importance of play will be fostered with age appropriate child led and child directed play opportunities enabling parents to interact with their children in a supported environment. Early Childhood Educators will be on site to support families and to encourage and reinforce the importance of quality time spent with children as a protective factor for their child’s emotion and social wellbeing.
